Rezumat:

In the first two paragraphs of the Monadology something appears that might be called the dilemma of composition. It seems that Leibniz maintains the existence of the simple substance on a modus ponens, but when we look at the content of the two premises we can see that the two premises can not stay together at the same time and under the same rapport. We want to see how Leibniz resolves the problem of composition and, to do that, we will begin with Leibniz’s early solution, then we will discuss his solution from the middle period (1680-1690) and finally the solution from the late years.
