The quenching distances and the minimum ignition currents for LPG/air gaseous mixtures of various fuel concentrations and total initial pressures were measured by using inductive-capacitive sparks and break sparks, respectively. From these values, minimum ignition energies for both types of sparks were calculated. In lean- and stoichiometric LPG/air mixtures ignition by break sparks requires higher energies as compared to ignition by inductive-capacitive sparks. The quenching distances and minimum ignition energies of LPG in air are discussed versus similar values for propane/air and butanes/air.
