The results of the experimental investigations concerning the synthesis of a new indolonic type polymer with magnetic properties are presented. By comparison with the known analogous structures in which the linking of the indolonic rests takes place at the 5,5′ positions, the new polymer was obtained as a unique 6,6’stereoisomer by Bayer- Drewsen synthesis. The used preparative way implies the treatment of o-nitrobenzaldehyde with formaldehyde in acidic catalysis, followed by the treatment of the formed methylenic compound with acetone in basic medium when the indigoid system is generated. All compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy, in order to confirm the proposed structures. The magnetic properties of the new 6,6 indolonic polymer are superior than those of the 5,5 analogous.
