The Amphibians from the Western Romanian Thermal Waters
In Romanian with English summary.
Book covered by Thomson ISI in BIOSIS Previews and in BIOSIS Procedings and Meetings
„In north-western Romania there is a special category of amphibian-populating habitats represented by thermal waters. In the region there is a series of natural thermal springs, situated in the contact area between the Pannonic Plain and the neighboring hill and mountain units (Oncescu 1959). Besides the natural springs, thermal waters were tapped and are used at filling the summer pools. The characteristic of the thermal waters is the high and constant temperature, no matter of the temperature in the air. In thermal habitats the temperature of the water is constant, higher than 20 ºC independently of the seasonal temperature changes. The high and constant temperatures induce modifications in the biology of the amphibians that populate them. In the Romanian literature there aren’t any studies referring to the influence of thermal waters upon the amphibians…”
