The paper discusses some aspects of the development of numerical models for unsteady regimes in rivers and open channels.Based on a concise description of two methods of developing such models ,are discussed aspects concerning the formulation of finite difference equations,stability and convergence of numerical solutions and practical requirements for discretisation of the model and for the input data.Some results optained in two practical applications are presented for illustration.
