Rare specimens of Ammodiscus are documented from Sarmatian (Middle Miocene) sandy-silty shales outcropping at Chinusu on the southeastern border of the Transylvanian Basin. These small, irregularly coiled and relatively coarsely agglutinated forms compare well morphologically to the modern species Ammodiscus gullmarensis Höglund, 1948 and are tentatively designated as Ammodiscus aff.
gullmarensis. and are tentatively designated as Ammodiscus aff. gullmarensis. Representatives of A.
gullmarensis and closely related small-sized forms are known from brackish environments of fjords
with estuarine water stratification. Based on the observed morphological and environmental features, we presume a similar restricted palaeoenvironment for the Sarmatian (Middle Miocene) strata of Chinusu with A. aff. gullmarensis.
