Using e-Infrastructure for Research Summer School

Using e-Infrastructure for Research Summer School
12th – 15th September 2011
Coesners House, Abingdon, Oxfordshire

You may already have a little experience of working with e-Infrastructure, perhaps you are undertaking doctoral studies and engaging with clouds or grids for the first time? Maybe you have completed your doctoral studies and have just started a research career where e-Infrastructure services and tools are expected to underpin your everyday work? Perhaps grid and clouds are just words you have heard but you are not sure what they mean and how they can help you?

It’s a fact that e-Infrastructure promises those who adopt it access to an almost limitless range of resources for research. Its value as a facilitator of larger-scale and more multi-disciplinary collaborations and as an enabler of new kinds of research and reducing “time to discovery” is unquestionable. But let’s be clear, e-Infrastructure can be complex and challenging and many researchers often lack the time to be able to utilise technology properly.

Now ask yourself this: wouldn’t it be good to take some time off from your research this summer to get practical advice and hands-on support for deploying e-Infrastructure in your work? Well, look no further, the Using e-Infrastructure for Research Summer School is here to help you.

This Summer School is a unique EPSRC funded (including travel) four day event aimed at UK doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. We have assembled a group of the UK’s leading e-Infrastructure experts who are waiting to solve your e-Research problems, big or small. Topics to be covered will include an introduction to linux, using national e-resources and practical data and software management. In addition, the Summer School offers participants the opportunity to network and socialise with researchers across disciplinary boundaries.

Places are limited register soon. Further information about the event can be found at http://www.ngs.ac.uk/seiuccr/summerschool.

Closing date for applications is 9am Monday 15th August 2011.
