Rezumat:

This book is about present day cities, which are considered not only from the limited perspective of architects and urban planners, but also with stimulating inputs from the economic and social sciences. From a theoretical point of view, the authors propose an adaptation of the principles of organisational change management in the urban transformation sector. The aim is to contribute to the definition and promotion of this new area of research. The philosophical interpretation of urban change inspired by Constantin Noica’s theory on the ‘opening closure’ supports the wide scale understanding and legitimacy of this phenomenon. Finally, the theoretical and operational aspects of the issue are connected through the presentation of some dedicated mechanisms, their concrete applications and the actual trends in the evolution of urban settlements. The publication is meant to inform and inspire both the general public and professionals concerned with city design, development and urban management.
