Profesor, seful Clinicii de Chirurgie Vasculara si Microchirurgie Reconstructiva, la Universitatea de Medicina si Farmacie Victor Babes Timisoara; In perioada 1995-1996 a fost Bursier al Serviciului German de Schimburi Academice (DAAD), iar in 1997 a devenit Doctoris medicinae magna cum laudae al Universitatii Friedrich-Alexander din Erlangen Nurnberg; in 2001 devine Doctor in medicina al Universitatii de Medicina si Farmacie Victor Babes, Timisoara.

Presedinte al Societatii Romane de Microchirurgie Reconstructiva intre 2000 si 2006, a fost ales presedinte al Societatii Romane de Chirurgie Vasculara (2014-2016) si al Societatii Internationale de Microchirurgie Experimentala (2016-2018). Incepand cu 2015 dr. Ionac a fost ales Presedinte al Comitetului pentru Registre nationale si expansiune teritoriala din cadrul UEMS Section and Board of Vascular Surgery.
Activitate clinica: dr. Ionac este specialist de chirurgie vasculara si chirurgie plastica si reconstructiva. A fondat clinica de chirurgie vasculara din Timisoara, activitatea lui incluzand tratamentul ischemiei critice de membru, boala carotidiana si aortica, boala venoasa utilizand tehnicile deschise si endovasculare. A format o echipa multidisciplinara, integrand tehnici de chirurgie vasculara si plastica pentru salvarea membrelor inferioare de la amputatie atat la pacientii cu boala arteriala, cat si la cei cu diabet.
Programul de instruire postuniversitara: dr. Ionac a fondat in 1994 centrul Pius Branzeu, o unitate de chirurgie experimentala dedicata instruirii in microchirurgie si chirurgie vasculara (www.pius-branzeu-center.ro). Dupa o perioada intensiva de instruire in Germania, a initiat Seminarele de Microchirurgie a Vaselor si Nervilor (1998) si Seminarele de disectie de lambouri pe tesut viu (2002). La aceste seminarii practice pe tesut viu au participat peste 1000 de chirurgi din intreaga lume, fiind recomandate de Societatea Mondiala de Microchirurgie Reconstructiva, de European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Incepand cu 2015, Seminariile de lambouri pe perforante au devenit parte integranta in Scoala Europeana de Microchirurgie Reconstructiva (www.rmes.es).
Dr. Ionac tine cursuri de metodologie a cercetarii stiintifice, coordineaza program de doctorat, pregatire de rezidentiat in chirurgia vasculara si serveste ca reviewer la Microsurgery, Daibetic Foot and Ankle, Chirurgia si Acta Cirurgica Brasileira.

Mihai Ionac is currently Professor of Surgery at the Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy From Timisoara and Head of the Clinic for Vascular Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery (www.chirurgievasculara.ro). In 1997 he became Doctoris medicinae magna cum laude of the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nurnberg. Dr. Ionac was the founder of the Romanian Society for Vascular Surgery, being elected as president between 2014 and 2016. Between 2016 and 2018 he will serve as President of the International Society for Experimental Research. Since 2015 dr. Ionac has been nominated as Chairman of the National Registries and Territorial Expansion of the UEMS Board and Section of Vascular Surgery.

Clinical focus: Dr. Ionac is board certified in vascular surgery and plastic surgery. His clinical activity includes chronic limb ischemia, carotid and aortic disease, mesenteric ischemia, and venous disease, using both open and endovascular techniques. He formed a multidisciplinary team integrating peripheral vascular and plastic surgery skills for the salvaging of lower limbs with chronic ischemia and tissue loss and for the management of the diabetic foot.

Postgraduate training: dr. Ionac founded 1994 the Pius Branzeu Center, an experimental facility dedicated to research and training in microsurgery, flap surgery and vascular surgery (www.pius-branzeu-center.ro). Following an extensive training period in Germany he started 1998 the International Seminars in Microsurgery of Vessels and Nerves and in 2002 the Seminars in Flap Dissection on Living Tissue. These practical seminars on living tissue have been visited by more than 1000 surgeons from all over the world. Among other authorities, these seminars are endorsed by the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Since 2015 the Seminars in perforator flap sugery have been integrated in the European School of Reconstructive Microsurgery (www.rmes.es). The center hosts periodically courses in vascular ultrasound, vascular suturing.

Dr. Ionac teaches also methodology of scientific research, coordinates PhD programs, resident training program in vascular surgery and serves as reviewer for Microsurgery, Diabetic Foot and Ankle, Chirurgia and is associate editor of Acta Cirurgica Brasileira.
