ZAMOLXIS
Charismatic Personality of the Antiquity to
the North of the Low Danube
(abstract)
MARIUS GREC
On the basis of an intense cult of the ancestors, existent in the Gaeto – Dacian world too, cult that was kept at the highest shares until to the State of Decebal (the first century, after Christ), and in the same time in latest periods through folk creation, the appearance of Zamolxis was not only possible, but also a necessary phenomenon. He is the _expression of a level of evolution of the Gaeto – Dacian society which wanted a founder of religion – a charismatic character – comparable with Zarathustra or Moise, through the force of the ideas which were spread. Perhaps the name, Zamolxis (or Zalmoxis) should have been a result of the hazard (the name of Chosen Person could be, for certain, in the same time another one); it is sure that the Gaeto – Dacian society, in a permanent expansion, in all social ways, come into contact with important civilizations (Celtic, Greek or Roman), needed the faith in immortality for strengthening itself, resisting to the strong neighbors’ attacks, spreading in their detriment. If Zamolxis hadn’t existed, doubtlessly, he should have invented.
