Within the last few years, there have been made investigations to find macromolecular systems with chemical functions to induce hydroxyl-apatite (HA) formation both in vitro and in vivo. In this respect, we prepared some copolymers of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and 2-methacryloylamido-glutamic acid and we evaluated their capacity to initiate the formation and growth of HA crystals on surface when incubated in physiological fluids. SEM analysis showed the formation of HA (calcospherites), confirmed by their specific form and by EDX.
