Sorin A. Matei (Doctor in Communicatii, Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California) preda la Universitatea Purdue si studiaza modelarea socio-spatiala si impactul tehnologiilor de comunicare. Cercetarile sale se orienteaza catre folosirea mediilor de comunicare in diferitele tipuri de comunitati, accentuind aspectele sociale si interactionale. O zone de interes special o reprezinta rolul jucat de tehnologiile de comunicare in demarcarea si modelarea hartilor afective si cognitive. In prima etapa a actitatii sale intelectuale el a desfasurat cercetare in zona studiilor Romanesti si Est Europene. Unul dintre produsele acelor ani este cartea Boierii Mintii, publicata in 2004, care a creat o dezbatere de idei foarte vie in Romania. Fost redactor BBC World Service, el este deasemenea interesat de aspectele globale ale comunicarii. Sorin A. Matei (Ph.D, Annenberg School for Communication, USC) is a faculty member in the Department of Communication, Purdue University and specializes in the social-spatial shaping and impact of communication technologies. His research focuses on media use in community settings, with an emphasis on the social construction of space and social interactions. A distinct area of interest is the role played by communication technologies in shaping affective and cognitive mental maps. During the early part of his career, as a junior scholar he was active in the Romanian and Eastern European Studies arena. A product of those years of research was published as a book, The Mind Boyars, in 2004. The book was an object of intense intellectual debate in Romania. A former BBC World Service producer, he is also interested in the impact of communication technology on global social processes.
