1st IAASS Conference,25 – 27 October 2005 Nice, France „Space safety, a new beginning”

„The International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety (www.iaass.org), legally established 16 April 2004 in the Netherlands, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to furthering international cooperation and scientific advancement in the field of space systems safety. In October 2004, IAASS became a member of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). The association exists to help shape and advance an international culture of space safety (technical, organisational and socio-political), which would contribute to make space missions, vehicles, stations, extraterrestrial habitats, equipment and payloads safer for the general public, ground personnel and crews.

The first IAASS Conference „Space safety, a new beginning” is sponsored by ESA. The title of the conference is an invitation to visit, reflect and exchange information on a number of recent events: starting with the sequence of accidents (Soyuz M-1 at launch, Suttle-Columbia, Brazilian VLS-1 V03 disaster, rocket explosion at ISRO processing facility) and then the publications of the CAIB report, the first Chinese human Spaceflight, the start of the suborbital space-tourism adventure, and the return to flight of the Shuttle. The conference will be a forum for exchange of information on research and innovation in space safety and related fields. A wide range of topics will be covered from Space Transportation Safety, Space Exploration Safety to Launch Range Safety and Space Safety Regulations.”
