Richard Kerr reports in the magazine Science ( www.sciencemag.org ) that long range forecasting in the Northern Hemisphere has got a boost by recent research on North Atlantic Oscillation
( https://www.ad-astra.ro/journal/2/bojariu_oscillation.php?lang=en ). Several researchers including our own editor Dr. Roxana Bojariu from the Romanian National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology in Bucharest ( https://www.ad-astra.ro/whoswho/view_profile.php?user_id=12&lang=en ) have observed that snow cover in the northern hemisphere during the summer can be used to predict the severity/mildness of the following winter. Although a precise mechanism for this phenomenon remains to be found, the correlation promises to improve winter forecasts with imense benefits for the society.
