In Dobrudja, we have encoutnered 10 species of amphibians and 16 species of reptiles. The most importanta areas for the herpetofauna are the northern and the south-western regions.

The present study focused upon an area in which the herpetofauna had previously been very poorly studied. During our research we have identified 16 species of amphibians: Salamandra salamandra, Triturus vulgaris, Triturus cristatus, Triturus montandoni, Triturus alpestris, Bombina bombina, Bombina variegata, Pelobates fuscus, Bufo bufo, Bufo viridis, Hyla arborea, Rana lessonae, Rana ridibunda, Rana temporaria, Rana arvalis and Rana dalmatina. During our research in Suceava County we have identified 8 species (Emys orbicularis, Anguis fragilis, Zootoca vivipara, Lacerta agilis, Natrix natrix, Coronella austriaca, Zamenis longissimus and Vipera berus) of reptiles in the 34 investigated localities.
