Multicriteria Optimization Model for the Study of the Efficacy of Skin Antiaging Therapy.

Abstract: The evolution of the cutaneous structure after topical treatment with P63 antiaging complex, assessed with high frequency ultrasound, is studied by means of multicriteria optimization model. Due to the fact that the impact of the treatment may influence the quality of life, a medical index which measures, from this point of view, the efficacy of the treatment is given, also taking into account medical and economical aspects.

Iterative Methods for Obtaining Energy-Minimizing Parametric Snakes with Applications to Medical Imaging

After a brief survey on the parametric deformable models, we develop an iterative method based on the finite difference schemes in order to obtain energy-minimizing snakes. We estimate the approximation error, the residue, and the truncature error related to the corresponding algorithm, then we discuss its convergence, consistency, and stability. Some aspects regarding the prosthetic sugical methods that implement the above numerical methods are

Abdominal Tumor Characterization and Recognition Using Superior-Order Cooccurrence Matrices, Based on Ultrasound Images.

The noninvasive diagnosis of the malignant tumors is an important issue in research nowadays. Our purpose is to elaborate computerized, texture-based methods for performing computer-aided characterization and automatic diagnosis of these tumors, using only the information from ultrasound images. In this paper, we considered some of the most frequent abdominal malignant tumors: the hepatocellular carcinoma and the colonic tumors. We compared these

Ultrasonographic assessment of skin structure according to age

Background: High-frequency ultrasound is a noninvasive tool that offers characteristic markers, quantifying the cutaneous changes of the physiological senescence process. Aims: The aim was to assess the changes in skin thickness, dermal density and echogenicity, as part of the ageing process, with different age intervals. Methods : The study was performed on 160 patients, aged 40.4 ± 21.2, divided into four age categories:

A case report of solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura: ultrasound diagnostic features

Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura is a rarely encountered clinical entity. Although the majority of these neoplasms have a benign course, the malignant form has also been reported. We describe the case of a 57-year-old male smoker with diabetes who was incidentally diagnosed on chest X-ray with a large solitary mass of the left hemithorax. The diagnostic tests included computed tomography, ultrasound, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound. Radical

Solid pseudopapillary Pancreatic tumor: added value contrast enhanced Ultrasound in diagnosis and follow-up

Solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) is a very rare neoplasm of the exocrine pancreas. SPT usually develops asymptomatically and therefore radiological techniques are very important in the diagnosis. Frequently, ultrasound examination is the first technique that is used, and although it is not very specific, it may be completed with contrast-enhanced ultrasound, which increases diagnostic accuracy. Unlike other pancreatic neoplasms, SPT has a homogeneous

Is it better to use two elastographic methods for liver fibrosis assessment?

AIM:To find out if by combining 2 ultrasound based elastographic methods: acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) elastography and transient elastography (TE), we can improve the prediction of fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C. METHODS:Our study included 197 patients with chronic hepatitis C. In each patient, we performed, in the same session, liver stiffness (LS) measurements by means of TE and ARFI, respectively, and liver biopsy (LB),

How efficient is acoustic radiation force impulse elastography for the evaluation of liver stiffness?

Background: In chronic liver diseases, a correct estimation of the severity of liver fibrosis is important for recommendations regarding the treatment. Nowadays, evaluation of fibrosis is done by noninvasive methods such as biochemical scores and transient elastography instead of liver biopsy. The lack of sensitivity to detect fibrosis, because of its heterogeneity is a drawback of liver biopsy (LB). Objectives: To compare transient elastography

Die zystische Echinokokkose der Leber. Probleme der Ultraschalldiagnostik

The authors examined 100 patients with a total of 119 cysts of the liver. The diagnosis was subsequently confirmed via scintigraphy, radiology and laparotomy. This paper reports on a sonographic analysis of cystic echinococcosis of the liver, its sonographically demonstrable types, structures and complications and their differential diagnosis. In 58% of the cases the classical aspect of cystic echinococcosis was seen (Type A). 22.7% of the cases
