premii Ad Astra

Asociația Ad Astra a anunțat câștigătorii Premiilor Ad Astra 2022: http://premii.ad-astra.ro/. Proiectul și-a propus identificarea și popularizarea modelelor de succes, a rezultatelor excepționale ale cercetătorilor români din țară și din afara ei.

Asociatia Ad Astra a cercetatorilor romani lanseaza BAZA DE DATE A CERCETATORILOR ROMANI DIN DIASPORA.

Culture and national competitiveness

The 21st century offered new challenges for the national economy. One of the most controversial aspects of globalization was the worldwide spread and dominance of the American culture. The cultural dimensions that characterize a nation had a major impact on national competitiveness, although in the globalization age the nations are tending to lose their own identity and culture. Competitiveness always was the motive which generates economic growth

Considerations in the development of new photoluminescence polyurethanes

One of the chief topics in the photopolymers field is the chemical incorporation of photo-luminescent chromophores on the macromolecular backbone in order to prove unequivocally that such structures can serve as important tools in biology, medicine, chemistry, and not only. Ongoing research in our laboratory involves the synthesis and characterization of novel photopolymers with focus on understanding the intrinsic properties of the probe molecule

Laser ablation of polyimide thin films

Thin films made from fluorinated poly(naphthyl-imide)s containing oxadiazole rings were irradiated with UV-laser of various fluences and their morphology before and after laser ablation was investigated by using various spectroscopy techniques such as FTIR, atom force, and time-resolved emission spectroscopy.

Nanostructured Polyimide Films by UV Excimer Laser Irradiation

Here we present a study of the polyimide lms nanostructur- ing by KrF laser beam irradiation and the investigation of the mechanism of cone-like structure formation at two laser uences, 57 and 240 mJ/cm2. These lms were prepared from uorinated poly(naphthyl-imide)s containing oxadia- zole rings, by casting polymer solutions onto glass plates and gradually heating. Their morphology before and after laser ablation was investigated by using var- ious

Synthesis and characterization of a silsesquioxane nanocomposite with photoluminescence properties

In situ organically-modified silsesquioxane nanoparticles with vinyl units were obtained combining the sol-gel technique and the radical polymerization of vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS) in the presence of a small amount of a cationic surfactant, i.e., cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The surfactant was added in order to improve the optical properties based on controlled nanophase separations. The hydrolysis and polycondensation reactions were

Micro-FTIR spectroscopy characterization of monumental stones protective coatings

Total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy was used to assess the effectiveness of four polymeric hydrophobic coatings in the conservation of two monumental stones, originating from Spain and Romania. The selected coatings include three commercially available siloxane-based water repellent products, as well as a new hybrid nanocomposite with silsesquioxane units synthesized via the sol-gel technique. Micro-FTIR analyses were

Laser ablation influence on untreated and chemical-treated poly(ethylene terephthalate) film surfaces

The aim of this study was the evaluation of the excimer laser ablation effect on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) film surfaces by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier Transform Infrared - Attenuated Total Reflectance (FTIR-ATR) and contact angle measurements. Nitrogenous groups were introduced onto PET films through triethylenetetraamine (TETA) by chemical treatments. Laser ablation on both untreated and treated biaxially stretched

Assessment of siloxane-based polymeric matrices as water repellent coatings for stone monuments

The effectiveness of four polymeric water repellent coatings used for the protection of two monumental limestones, commonly used as building materials in Spain and Romania, has been evaluated. The selected coatings include three commercially available siloxane-based water repellent products and a new hybrid nanocomposite with silsesquioxane units synthesized via sol-gel technique. The water repellents were applied onto the limestones, and the coating

5. Mineral composition and stone conservation of cultural heritage building materials studied by PXRD

For the present study two types of rock, from Spain and Romania, selected by regional significance, abundance and importance were characterized by powder x-ray diffraction (PXRD). The samples were prepared by casting the same amount of a silsesquioxane-based polymer obtained through sol-gel approach and radical polymerization of 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TMSPMA) onto powder stones. Due to the distinct stones composition, the different

Protective coatings based on silsesquioxane nanocomposite films

The present paper reports on the evaluation of mineral composition of two porous limestones, i.e., a bioclastic limestone with large pore radii and grain size and a dolomitic one of small pore radii and grain size, used as monumental building stones, and on the influence of a new silicon-based hybrid polymer nanocomposite with silsesquioxane units (TMSPMA), used as protective coating material, on their composition and crystallographic properties.
