Specialista in domeniul micropaleontologiei pe baza nannoplanctonului calcaros de varsta Cretacic-Tertiar. Realizarea de studii de biostratigrafie integrata, paleoecologie si paleo-oceanogarfie. Investiagtii asupra limitei Cretacic/Tertiar in Domeniul Tethys. Cartare in depozite sedimentare cretaci-tertaire ale Romaniei, harti geologice publicate.
Studierea Evenimentelor Anoxice Globale din Cretacic, a cauzelor si efectelor lor, mai ales biotice si paleoclimatice.
Investigatii recente asupra modificarilor oxice/anoxice.
Analiza efectelor Crizei Messiniene in zona mediteraneana (Spania, Franta, Italia, Tunisia, Grecia, Turcia, Israel) si a reflectarii acesteia in Domeniul Paratethys (Romania, Serbia, etc.)
Investigatii geologice, sedimentologice, paleobiotice si de paleomediu depozitional in depozitele holocene ale Marii Negre.
Publicatii: 11 carti; 120 lucrari publicate in reviste cu referenti, dintre care 35 in reviste cotate ISI.

Researches of focused on the micropalaeontological domain, especially on the biostratigraphy and palaeoecology of calcareous nannoplankton occurring within Cretaceous and Tertiary deposits. Some of the studies regarded the litho- and biostratigraphy of the Cretaceous sediments that crop out in the Romanian Carpathians, including the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary event. Recent investigations concentrated on Oceanic Anoxic Events from the Earth history, their related biotic and climatic changes, as well as the pattern of recovery at the end of these globally distributed events, including anoxic/oxic modifications.
Other studies are related to the Messinian Crisis that occurred within the Miocene/Pliocene boundary interval in the Mediterranean region and its possible connections with the Paratethys Realm. For this purpose, sections from France, Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Greece, Turkey and Israel were investigated for their calcareous nannofloral content, and compared with sections from Romania, Serbia and Hungary, in order to document palaeoenvironmental changes of those times.
Recently, investigations were carried out on the palaeoecology and sedimentology of the Holocene deposits of the NW Black Sea (Romanian Shelf), as well as on the biotical signal related to salinity and sea-level fluctuations in this region.
Publicatiosn: 11 books and over 120 published papers in peer-review journals, from which 35 in ISI qouted magazines.
