Research activity
All the studies were performed in Microsurgical Laboratory, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Microsurgery from Central Emergency Hospital of Bucharest. Research was conducted by Prof. Ioan Lascar and Dr. Dragos Zamfirescu.

June 2010- present
 Vascularized bone marrow transplantation study on rats
The goal of this study was to improve the outcome of limb transplantation in a rigorous rat model. We were studying the development of microchimerism after allogeneic vascularized bone marrow transplantation versus conventional bone marrow transplantation.

Performing anaesthesia of the rats
Performing heterotopic leg transplantation in rats
Performing microsurgical vascular anastomosis
Rats postoperative management
Immunosuppressive drugs usage in rats

 Tracheal allotransplantation study on rats
The goal of this study was to examine whether simultaneous vascularized bone marrow transplantation allows acceptance of orthotopic tracheal allografts and prevents the formation of obliterative airway disease.
Skills achieved:
Performing orthotopic tracheal transplantation
Performing upper extremity heterotopic transplantation
Histologic evaluation of tracheal rejection


 Vital organs transplantations study on rats
The goal of this study was to describe simple and stable methods for kidney, heart and trachea transplantations in a syngenic rat model.
Skills achieved:
Performing cervical dissection
Harvesting a kidney graft
Performing an uretherostoma
Harvesting a heart graft
Histologic evaluation of heart and kidney allografts

 Composite tissue transplantations in rats
The goal of this study was to performe hemifacial tongue and mandible heterotopic allotransplantation based on common artery and external jugular veinas vascular pedicle.
Skills achieved:
Discribing the facial vascular anatomy
Harvesting hemifacial flap

 Training in supermicrosurgery on rat tail artery using an intravascular stent method for anastomosis
The goal of this study was to performe supermicrosurgical anastomosis on rat tail artery using an intravascular stent.
Skills achieved:
Performing rat rail artery dissection on all its lenght.
Performing termino-terminal and termino-lateral supermicrosurgical anastomosis with 11-0 nylon sutures. Stent size ranged from 4-0 to 6-0, and stent length ranged from 5 to 20 mm.

 Toe -to-thumb transplantation in a rat model
The goal of this activity was to performe big toe to thumb allotransplantation in rat.
Skills achieved:
Describing foot anatomy-median plantar artery and vein, common digital nerve.
Describing forepaw anatomy-median antery and vein, cephalic vein.
Microsurgical anastomosis using 11-0 nylon sutures on medial plantar artery to median artery and medial plantar vein to cephalic vein.

 Peripheral nerve regeneration using nerve conducts
The goal of this study was to evaluate the applicability of the prototypes of nerve conducts. The main proprieties of the products were evaluated: biodegrablity and permeability. A histological evaluation was performed in a referred center.
Skills achieved:
Sciatic nerve dissection.
Performing epineural anastomosis.
Performing clinical tests for the assessment of the nerve regeneration.
