premii Ad Astra

Asociația Ad Astra a anunțat câștigătorii Premiilor Ad Astra 2022: http://premii.ad-astra.ro/. Proiectul și-a propus identificarea și popularizarea modelelor de succes, a rezultatelor excepționale ale cercetătorilor români din țară și din afara ei.

Asociatia Ad Astra a cercetatorilor romani lanseaza BAZA DE DATE A CERCETATORILOR ROMANI DIN DIASPORA.

flag Details:
In order to perform the experimental section of my Ph.D. Thesis I was asked to design & set up a gas flow equipment able to maintain a pressurized gas content or a preliminary vacuum for at least 300 seconds, with a pressure sensitivity of +/- 0.1 kPa. I also had to gather background knowledge concerning operation with flammable gases, high voltage circuits, and data acquisition systems. The main objectives of the original contribution of my PhD research were: evaluation of minimum ignition energy of explosive hydrocarbon-air mixtures (propane, propylene, commercial cocking machine Shell Gas) via quenching distance direct measurement, using a correlation model; single step reaction kinetics - evaluation of global reaction order and global activation energy from the pressure and temperature dependence of the quenching distance and burning velocity; inhibition effect of carbon dioxide on the flammability of propane-air mixture, application of regression analysis on the experimental data. The issues I have been confronted with concerned equipment component's provider (mainly Cole-Parmer), equipment assembling and testing, equipment interaction with control systems - feedback diagram). I also had to carry out experiment optimum scheduling in order to avoid unwanted dynamic phenomena - turbulences, gradients in fuel concentration, fuel de-mixing.

The first employer - Research Center for Macromolecular Materials and Membranes, Bucharest - hungry for young and enthusiastic researchers, hired me two weeks after graduation. I was included in the group of membrane characterization laboratory and soon after I began to pay my scientific contribution to the research contracts awarded by the former Romanian Ministry of Research and Development. On that occasion I had accumulated background knowledge related to membrane (preparation and characterization) and membrane's processes (micro , ultra- and nanofiltration).
At the National Institute for Scientific Research in Electrostatics and Electrotechnologies - Bucharest, I had to deal with topics ranging from macromolecular science to environment protection:
o inorganic and organic additives acting as flame-retardants in LDPE insulating materials for electrotechnical use;
o manufacture of insulating KITs for average to high voltage applications; designed for electric network maintenance (includes fireproof LDPE heat shrinkable tubes);
o electron beam processing of macromolecular materials and plastics;
o radiation-induced polymerization; functional grafting;
o electron beam removal of toxic emission from power plant stacks: DeNOx, DeSOx;
o ozone generators - optimization of NOx emissions at high voltage;
o ozone-UV hybrid system for drinkable water treatment;
o microwaves-induced polymerization; application of polyelectrolytes to waste water treatment; application of macromolecular absorbents to oil extraction.
