Rezumat:
The Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) has been used for more than 30 years to quantify the long-term drought conditions for a given location and time. The recently introduced selfcalibrating Palmer Drought Severity Index, scPDSI and self-calibrating Palmer Hydrological Drought Index, scPHDI are a convenient means of describing the spatial and temporal variability of hydrometeorological
drought. The analysis of this index was done for the southwestern part of Romania, for the period 1961-2005, evaluating the drought and testing the applicability of the self-calibrating
Palmer’s indices for Romanian area.
