Planta Europa, the network for plant conservation, brings together more than 60 organizations working towards the common goal of conserving the wild plants of Europe. It is an outstanding example of genuine European partnership between governments and non-governmental bodies delivering results.

At the 3rd Planta Europa Conference in 2001, experts from 30 European countries developed the European Plant Conservation Strategy. This far-reaching conservation strategy delivers part of the governmental commitment of halting the loss of biodiversity by 2010. the 4th Planta Europa Conference showed significant progress towards this goal, but also difficulties in meeting some formerly agreed targets.
