Connection between biocompatibility and electrochemical stability of a Co-Cr-Mo alloy

This study focuses on the connection between biocompatibility and corrosion resistance for a Co-Cr-Mo alloy used for biomedical applications. Electrochemical, surface analysis and in vitro tests were used to estimate the stability of the alloy in simulated physiological environment (artificial saliva, Hank solution), for different pH and surface preparation conditions, and its behavior in the presence of fibroblast cells. The results prove a good electrochemical stability of the chosen Co-Cr-Mo alloy, combined with positive results regarding its biocompatibility.
