Polymeric materials have been extensively used as components of sensor assays due to their relatively fast response to various external stimuli. In this work, a potential ammonia sensing poly (vinyl alcohol) [PVA] ecological and fast responsive material has been obtained, having as aim developing new materials based on PVA for the selective detection of pollutants from wastewaters. Swelling degree variation with ammonium hydroxide concentration (from 0.6 to 6% wt) has been studied. The hydrogel response to NH4OH concentration is linear in the studied concentration range.
