Rezumat:
The objectives of the study consist in discovering the congenital urological malformations through ultrasound exam in order to preco-
ciously adopt the right therapeutic attitude.
A number of 428 newborns were examined by ultrasound, using an ultrasound device with a 5,5 MHz probe, by the neonatolo-
gists from the ”Dr. Salvator Vuia” Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital Neonatology Department in Arad during 2008, 240 of
them being boys (56,07%) and 188 girls (43,93%), urological malformations being discovered among 38 of them, with an incidence
of 88,79/1000 newborns/year. Hydronephrosis was found in 23 cases (60,53% of those with malformations), with an incidence of
53,74/1000 newborns/year, while the non-hydronephrotic malformations were found in 15 cases (39,47% of those with malforma-
tions), with an incidence of 35,05/1000 newborns/year.
The relatively high incidence of these malformations justifies the introduction of a national screening program in order to avoid their
long-term consequences, especially in the case of obstructive ones.
