It will provide web based and other services for researchers who are interested in strengthening their contacts with other European researchers in the US and Europe. New amphiphilic nucleosides 3, 5, 7, 9 and nucleobases 12, 14, with lipophilic alkinyl substituents attached to the N-heterocyclic ring were obtained in a straight forward manner by Sonogashira-coupling of 5-iodouridine, 8-bromoadenosine and protected 8-bromo-guanosine or related halonucleobases. In most cases protective groups were unnecessary.

The synthesis and stereochemistry of some new 2,5-substituted 1,3-oxathiane derivatives are reported. The anancomeric or flexible structure of the derivatives and some peculiar cases of prochirality are revealed by NMR investigations

The stereochemistry of new spiro-1,3-oxathiane derivatives has been explored by NMR methods and the molecular structure of one compound established via single crystal by X-ray diffractometry. The investigations revealed flexible, semi-flexible and anancomeric structures and the ring-chain tautomerism of the 1,3-oxathiane heterocycle.

The stereochemistry of some new chiral brominated 1,3-dioxane derivatives is investigated by NMR methods. The anancomeric structure of the compounds and the diastereotopicity of the homomorphic groups are revealed. An influence through space of the chiral center at a distance of eight bonds have been observed.
