Codeposition of Cerium Oxide With Nickel and Cobalt: Correlation Between Microstructure and Microhardness.

Composite layers were obtained by electrochemical deposition of cobalt or nickel from a plating bath with cerium oxide as dispersed particles. The changes in microstructure and microhardness of the composite were studied in correlation with the number of oxide particles incorporated. It was found that the presence of cerium oxide (CeO2) particles has an influence on the codeposition process. The CeO2 included particles lead to structural modifications

Preparation and investigation of nanostructured SiC-nickel layers by electrodeposition

Nanocomposite layers have been obtained by electrochemical deposition of silicon carbide nanoparticles (mean diameter 20 nm) in a nickel plating bath. The influence of nanoparticles on nickel electroplating is studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) at cathodic potential. Cathodic polarization diagrams have been determined in the electrolyte with and without nanoparticles. We show that incorporation of 20 nm SiC particles into nickel

Electrodeposition of Zirconia Particles in a Copper Matrix.

Electrochemical codeposition is one of the most important methods of providing composites with metallic or nonmetallic compounds as a second phase, in a metallic matrix or nonmetallic matrix. Composite coatings can be prepared by electrodeposition from an electrolytic solution containing a suspension of insoluble ZrO2 particles. Interesting applications have been developed for wear resistance, dry lubrication, anticorrosion, dispersion hardening,

Corrosion study of copper composite coating by impedance spectroscopy method.

This paper investigates the corrosion behaviour of copper and copper-matrix composite coatings, with zirconium oxide particles embedded during electrodeposition from an acid copper sulphate plating bath. The corrosion studies were carried out on the basis of the polarisation resistance measurements by means of the impedance diagrams plotted in the complex plane, and Faradaic distortion method in the following aerated solution: 0.5M sulphuric acid.

Effect of sic size dimensions on the corrosion wear resistance of the electrodeposited composite coating

Advances in materials' performance often require the development of composite systems, of which coated materials are one form. The abrasion and corrosion resistance of components can be greatly increased by protective coatings and this is a growing industry of considerable economic importance. This paper aims with a comparative wear corrosion study of pure nickel and Ni-SiC nano structured composite coating. All the experiments concerning the effects

Tribocorrosion behaviour of Ni–SiC nano-structured composite coatings obtained by electrodeposition

The combined corrosion-wear degradation of nano-structured Ni–SiC coatings in sliding contacts immersed in electrically conductive solutions is investigated in situ by electrochemical techniques (open-circuit potential measurements, EOC, the potentiodynamic polarization measurements, PD, and the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy). The coating thickness was 50 μm, with an average volume of dispersed phases inside nickel of 20%. The samples

Electrodeposition and tribocorrosion behaviour of ZrO2–Ni composite coatings

For the purpose of producing new functional surfaces with enhanced tribo-corrosion properties we have investigated the electrochemical co - deposition of composites in which an electrodeposited metal (nickel) is the matrix and a transition – metal oxide (ZrO2) is the dispersed phase. This paper describes the effect of ZrO2 dispersed particles co-deposition on the nickel electrocrystallisation steps as well as the tribocorrosion behaviour of composite
