premii Ad Astra

Asociația Ad Astra a anunțat câștigătorii Premiilor Ad Astra 2022: http://premii.ad-astra.ro/. Proiectul și-a propus identificarea și popularizarea modelelor de succes, a rezultatelor excepționale ale cercetătorilor români din țară și din afara ei.

Asociatia Ad Astra a cercetatorilor romani lanseaza BAZA DE DATE A CERCETATORILOR ROMANI DIN DIASPORA.

69. Measurement of hGH in acromegalic patients under pegvisomant treatment

Treatment with hormone analogues can challenge the precise measurement by interference with the routinely used immunoassays systems, related to the presence of autoantibodies in the serum, interference with associated therapy or the presence of altered forms of the hormone, with modified biological activity and/or immunoreactivity. In patients with acromegaly treated with the hGH antagonist Pegvisomant (PEG) (Somavert®), most of the assays are deeply

Equilibrium constants for enolization in solution by computation alone

Equilibrium free energy changes for enolization in aqueous solution can be calculated with useful accuracy (rmse = 1.3 kcal/mol for 37 reactions). These calculations involve gas phase free energy changes calculated using the G3MP2B3 method and solvation energies calculated using the IPCM method corrected by a parameterization scheme which we have reported. For chloroacetones, we find a small preference for enolization to the halogenated side

Buffer capacity of heterogeneous chemical equilibria in natural waters

A novel ion–molecular buffer approach for estimating buffer capacities for natural water – mineral equilibria has been developed. Using this approach, the buffer capacity for any component of the heterogeneous system can be assessed. A proportional relation between different capacities in relation to ions of the compound distributed between two phases has been found. The influence of major thermodynamic parameters, such as temperature, pH, and

The role of hydroxy aluminium sulfate minerals in controlling Al3 concentration and speciation in acidic soils

Thermodynamic approach for the complex chemical equilibria investigation of two-phase systems containing hydroxy aluminium sulfate (HAS) minerals in soils has been developed. This approach utilizes thermodynamic relationships joined with original mass balance constraints, where the HAS mineral phases are explicitly expressed. The factors influencing the distribution and concentrations of various soluble aluminum species have been taken into account.

Effects of hot working procedure on surface relief characteristic in an Fe–Mn–Si–Cr shape memory alloy

The paper reports the evolution of surface relief and shape memory behavior in an Fe–28Mn– 6Si–5Cr (mass%) shape memory alloy (SMA) as a function of the applied hot working procedure. The objective of this paper is to discuss the relationship between surface relief characteristic, structural changes and the type of hot working processing. Particular aspects concerning the relief of martensite plates were reported after the alloy was subjected

Nonlinear Integral Formulation and Neural Network-Based Solution for Reconstruction of Deep Defects With Pulse Eddy Currents

A method for reconstruction of defects buried deep under material surface of conductive nonlinear materials is proposed. Defects are approximated as zero thickness. Simulation of pulse eddy currents is done using an integral FEM method, with a polarization method with over-relaxation to speed up the nonlinear iterations, and a neural network method is used for the reconstruction of defects shape from the simulated signals.

Prescribed burning as an alternative management in grasslands of temperate Europe: The impact on seeds.

Fire is not an integral part of terrestrial ecosystems in temperate Europe, nevertheless prescribed burning is proposed to be an alternative to traditional management applied to grasslands. Thus, anthropogenic fire represents a serious challenge to plant species, and there is no information on how the recruitment of species responds to fire. The aim of our study was to assess the effect of fire on seed germination of 16 herbaceous grassland and ruderal
