premii Ad Astra

Asociația Ad Astra a anunțat câștigătorii Premiilor Ad Astra 2022: http://premii.ad-astra.ro/. Proiectul și-a propus identificarea și popularizarea modelelor de succes, a rezultatelor excepționale ale cercetătorilor români din țară și din afara ei.

Asociatia Ad Astra a cercetatorilor romani lanseaza BAZA DE DATE A CERCETATORILOR ROMANI DIN DIASPORA.

How efficient is acoustic radiation force impulse elastography for the evaluation of liver stiffness?

Background: In chronic liver diseases, a correct estimation of the severity of liver fibrosis is important for recommendations regarding the treatment. Nowadays, evaluation of fibrosis is done by noninvasive methods such as biochemical scores and transient elastography instead of liver biopsy. The lack of sensitivity to detect fibrosis, because of its heterogeneity is a drawback of liver biopsy (LB). Objectives: To compare transient elastography

– Revascularizarea membrului inferior – între deziderat şi posibilitãţi

Revascularization of the lower extremity in patients with diabetes or chronic obstructive arterial disease is a challenging, still unsolved problem. Modern day technique (stem cell therapy, hyperbaric therapy) has yet to deliver satisfactory results. Homogenous (safenous vein) or heterogeneous (terom, dacron, PTFE-teflon) by-pass surgery is limited because of technical difficulty and positive outcomes have a short duration. All these lead to, in

Microcontrollers in Practice

Stressing common characteristics and real applications of the most used microcontrollers, this practical guide provides readers with hands-on knowledge of how to implement three families of microcontrollers (HC11, AVR, and 8051). Unlike the rest of the ocean of literature on individual chips, Microcontrollers in Practice supplies side-by-side comparisons and an overview that treats the systems as resources available for implementation. Packed with

Virtual Pheromones for Real-Time Control of Autonomous Mobile Robots

This paper presents a novel implementation of the concept of "virtual pheromones" for controlling autonomous mobile robots. Instead of deploying chemicals, RFID tags, or other traceable marks in the environment, the virtual pheromones are stored in a map of the environment maintained and updated by a "pheromone server". This map acts like a shared memory for all the agents, each of them communicating with the server via a radio link. No direct communication

On Using Passive RFID Tags to Control Robots for Path Following

Although very few robots actually go to Mars, we continue to design these machines as if they were organisms operating in a totally unknown and hostile environment. In fact, in most situations, the environment is not only predictable, but it can also be manipulated so that the missions of the autonomous robot may be supported, by including sensors, actuators, computing and communication equipment. One of the most convenient ways to manipulate the

The first linkage map of the American mink (Mustela vison)

Described herein, the first microsatellite linkage map for the American mink consists of 85 microsatellite markers resolved into 17 linkage groups. The map was constructed using 92 F1 progeny from five sire families created by crossing mink with different colour types. The linkage groups ranged from 0 to 137 cM. These linkage groups were assigned to 12 of the 14 mink autosomes using a somatic cell hybrid panel. The total map covered 690 sex-averaged

Mapping of the silver gene in mink and its association with the dilution gene in dog

In mink, recessive and dominant genes carry standard colors from generation to generation but breeding and cross breeding of naturally occurring mutations (color changes) has resulted in farmed animals bearing colors that do not exist in nature. The silver blue color type is one of the most used recessive mutations within mink fur farming being part of some of the popular color types which combine more recessive mutations. We report here the mapping

Albinism in the American mink (Neovison vison) is associated with a tyrosinase nonsense mutation

Albino phenotypes are documented in various species including the American mink. In other species the albino phenotypes are associated with tyrosinase (TYR) gene mutations; therefore TYR was considered the candidate gene for albinism in mink. Four microsatellite markers were chosen in the predicted region of the TYR gene. Genotypes at the markers Mvi6025 and Mvi6034 were found to be associated with the albino phenotype within an extended half-sib
