Abstract:
This paper deals with the strategies of love in transient times and communities, analyzing the narratives of cross-national couples that were formed in a multicultural campus environment and decided to preserve and continue the relation after leaving this space. I claim that the environment became imprinted into the deepest levels of the love relation, and this is the reason for the detailed analysis of the intersection of concepts that characterize the space, namely: the idea of transience; the overlapping of global and local; the usage of a second language for affective communication; the influence of modernity over identity formation. Finally, I argue that such couples manage to exist because the people involved created a specific universe – a space of negotiation and of equality, which incorporates transience as a definitory element and where the communication expanded beyond the usual frames of words, through the creation of an intimate code.
