Rezumat:
The paper is on Giuseppe Culicchia’s most recent novel, Un’estate al mare (A summer at the seaside), whose theme is connected to the Mediterranean. Its seaside from Stagnone to Marsala represents the background of an interesting story, where a new wed couple is spending the wedding trip.
The cultural elements and the places he refers to in this novel are numerous and the littoral of the Mediterranean Sea is described as a magnificent world which makes the connection between ancient and modern. Through Luca’s thought, the protagonist of the novel, one can meet the splendid places of a wonderful Sicily, from the archeological sites, to the most chic lidos, in order to paraphrase one of the novel’s characters. In this best-seller, Culicchia has a genuine sense of humor which is interpenetrated with a touching sensibility and an extremely refined spirit of observation, transposed into an overflowing writing.
The novel is accompanied by a corrosive irony on the period of corruption and lack of values that Italy is crossing through at the beginning of the Third Millennium. It is full of references at scandals that are shaking Italy at the moment, and that arrive by media, in the papers that the protagonist is reading every day.
Collaborating with many magazines and newspaper, among which “La Stampa”, the author is one of the best known contemporary Italian writers, whose novels were translated all over the world, and whose books inspired the themes of the most recent Italian movies. His style is an authentic and incisive one, demonstrating a great literary talent.
