Rezumat:

Has English language a chance to survive in our fast moving and ever changing society and if so, what will it look like? The appearance of what we have come to call global culture, are seen in the light of the swift circulation of cultural commodities. Some examples will be drawn from higher education, films, work in electronic media, books, food and even fashion in a manner that seems to overwhelm local cultural systems and observers.

Romania as a sovereign state within the European Union has to have a chance to keep all its facets of its own language and culture in a society that is more and more merging and moving closer together in Europe or our World. Information I have gathered from my own students (many of them are from Italy) and other personal contacts indicates that students are making use of new technology on their own to improve their English skills when they are motivated and when they are able to do so. The goal of this study was to examine the future of teaching English in Romanian higher education as a second language and the effect of globalization upon it.
