The reproduction of hormonal effects by macromolecular RNA

Investigations on the possibility to reproduce the effects of estradiol-17beta in an endocrino-dependent organ - the vagina - by local macromolecularRNA have been carried out. Macromolecular RNA was extracted from ovariectomized female rat vaginas. After intravaginal application of extracted RNA in ovariectomized animals the appearance of hormonal effects expressed by epithelial hyperplasia, hasty keratinization and evident exfoliation has been ascertained.

A new allele at the m ouse hairless locus: hrnk

Mutant individuals without hair have accidentally appeared in a Swiss mouse colony. They have been studied to establish the type of mutation and its effects. It was observed the lack of normal coat in homozygous mutant mice throughout life. Also, the thymus was present in 1-day old pups resulted from parents without hair, while their chromosomes do not exhibit abnormalities in number and structure. Reduced prolificacy(4-8 pups/litter) and excessive

Comparative gene distribution of mouse and bull Y chromosome

The mammalian Y chromosome plays a crucial role in primary sex determination, but also it is important in spermatogenesis and fertility. Therefore, the cytogenetic and genetic mapping of Y chromosome, especially in humans and mice, is in an accelerated progress and notable advances are registered in cattle. Morphologically, the mouse Y chromosome is acrocentric and its length measures 5 x 10000 kb; the bull Y chromosome is submetacentric and averages

Haploid-diploid chimerism in 1-day chickens with crossedbeak accompanied by microphthalmia and/or anophthalmia

One-day chicks affected by microphthalmia and/or anophthalmia associated with crossed beak have cytoegenetically been examined. Chromosome preparations were made from bone marrow, and ASG-banding techique has been applied. Examinations of metaphase cells evidenced two types of cell lines chromosomally different. It was established that the analysed chicks were haploid-diploid chimeras. All haploid cells contained a Z gonosome. The lack of 1A-W cells

Tumoral and bone marrow karyotypic profiles in a mouse with metastatic hemangiosarcoma

The purpose of this study was to obtain a more complete cytogenetic picture of the last stage mouse hemangiosarcoma by the chromosome preparations effectuated directly from the tumors and the bone marrow. G-banded chromosome analysis from 28 cells of the primary tumor, 9 cells from secondary tumor, and 77 cells from bone marrow revealed a constant structural aberration: 40,XX,ace, appearing in all probes although in different ratios(10.7%, 22.9%,

Premature termination of hair follicle morphogenesis and accelerated hair follicle cycling in Iasi congenital atrichia(fz ica) mice points to fuzzy as a key element of hair cycle control

Inbred laboratory mice have proven to be useful model systems for studying hair biology and pathomechanisms of hair loss. Fuzzy(fz) is an autosomal recessive mutation that results in hair coat abnormalities. Though this mutant has long been known, its cutaneous abnormalities still await systematic analysis. Here, we provide a systematic skin phenotype analysis of mice that are homozygous for Iasi congenital atrichia(fzica/fzica) existing in a Romanian
