Optical and Thermo-electrical Effects in Newly Synthesised Cholesteric Compounds

The mesomorphic properties of new synthesised materials, cholesteryl derivatives and nematogenic compound with rigid cores, were investigated by a simple analytical system using light scattering (LS) method. Changes of the transmission light intensity through the sample were measured as function of temperature. The effect of the electric field on the transmitted light intensities when heating/cooling the samples was studied. Significant changes of

Steryl Carbamates Mesogens With A Trifluoromethylphenyl Moiety

Steryl carbamates were prepared by direct reaction of sterols with alpha, alpha, alpha-trifluoro-m-tolyl isocyanate to evaluate the effect of the meta-CF3-phenyl group attached at the C-3 position of the sterol nucleus. The thermodynamic properties of steryl-carbamates were characterized by DSC and the texture of the mesophases was determined with a Boetius hot stage.

The Behaviour of the Simple Lipides in an Electrical Field

By means of a mathematical model of the non-facilitated passive trans-membrane microtransport, the influence of the relaxation time of the various ions on the dynamics of cell parameters is demonstrated. Through the equating of the unfacilitated trans-membrane microtransport across the cell membrane with the relaxation process in a polarized electrolytic cell, the experimental determination is sought of the relaxation time for the solutions of unsaturated

Thermally Stimulated Depolarization Currents In A New Cholesteric Liquid Crystal

The phase transitions in cholesteryl-beta-chloropropionate were studied by using termally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) methods. Optical transmission studies were performed over the whole temperature range. From the experimental data, useful informations with referrence on the conduction mechanism were obtained. The TSDC spectra displayed a peak at the solid-cholesteric phase transition temperature. Using the plots obtained when different

Cholesteryl derivatives with a sulfonyl moiety

Cholesteryl carbamates were prepared by reaction of cholesterylchloroformate with phenylsulfonylanilines, in the presence of pyridine as acid acceptor. The thermodynamic properties of cholesteryl derivatives were characterized by DSC and the texture of the mesophases have been determined with a hot stage equipped polariying microscope. The relative thermal stabilities and the variation on the mesomorphic characteristics also have been studied.
