Biosorption of cadmium (II) ions from aqueous solution onto immobilized cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. Equilibrium and kinetic studies were conducted taking into consideration the effect of initial cadmium (II) concentration. The obtained results showed that the uptake of heavy metal increases with an increase of initial cadmium (II) concentration. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to analyze the equilibrium data.
Read moreIn this investigation, the removal of Cd2+ ions by a brewery waste biomass in immobilized (Ca-alginate beads) form was studied. The removal process was conducted at room temperature under batch conditions (magnetic stirring) using different initial cadmium concentrations. The equilibrium of biosorption was reached in 150 minutes for all employed initial concentrations. The maximum biosorption capacity was calculated to be 5.96 mg Cd2+ g-1 yeast for
Read moreThe present study investigates the biosorption of cadmium ions from aqueous solution onto unmodified, ultrasound and microwave treated cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. FTIR analysis was conducted to characterize the biosorbent. Equilibrium and kinetic studies of unmodified RBW (residual brewery waste) cell yeast and DSM 1333 (pure strain) were conducted by considering the effect of initial cadmium ions concentration. Results showed that the ultrasound
Read moreThe Vision of Theophilus is one of the important apocryphal narratives concerning the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt. Although the text is known to survive in Arabic, Ethiopic and Syriac, a lost Coptic original has long been accepted by scholars. The present paper introduces a hitherto unidentified fragment from the Coptic version of this text. The fragment came from the White Monastery in Upper Egypt and it is currently kept in the National
Read moreThe History of Joseph the Carpenter (BHO 532–533; CANT 60; clavis coptica 0037) is readily accessible in many collections of New Testament Apocrypha. The text is fully preserved in Arabic and Bohairic, which was the regional dialect of Lower Egypt, and fragmentarily in Sahidic (i.e., the dialect of Upper Egypt). The present paper introduces P. Duk. inv. 239, a previously unidentified Sahidic fragment of this writing, which surfaced recently among
Read moreThe present article offers the edition, accompanied by an English translation, of a Coptic homily on the Cross and the Good Thief (CPG 2622; clavis coptica 0395) attributed to Theophilus of Alexandria. The edition is based on the Pierpont Morgan codex M595, ff. 141ro-148ro, a 9th century parchment codex, which belonged to the Monastery of the Archangel Michael, situated near Hamuli in the Fayyum oasis. The critical apparatus records the variant readings
