We present new radio, optical, and X-ray observations of three ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) that are associated with large-scale nebulae. We report the discovery of a radio nebula associated with the ULX IC 342 X-1 using the Very Large Array (VLA). Complementary VLA observations of the nebula around Holmberg II X-1, and high-frequency Australia Telescope Compact Array and Very Large Telescope spectroscopic observations of NGC 5408 X-1 are also
Read morePeriodic autoregressive (PAR) models extend the classical autoregressive models by allowing the parameters to vary with seasons. Selecting PAR time-series models can be computationally expensive, and the results are not always satisfactory. In this article, we propose a new automatic procedure to the model selection problem by using the genetic algorithm. The Bayesian information criterion is used as a tool to identify the order of the PAR model.
Read moreWe report results of combined experimental and theoretical studies of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) using 5-(4sulfophenylazo)salicylic acid disodium salt, known as Mordant Yellow 10 (MY-10), as TiO2 sensitizer. We focus on a single dye but vary the solvent and the pH of the solution as well as the photoelectrode preparation conditions to determine the conditions for best photovoltaic conversion efficiency. We found experimentally that the efficiency,

This laccase is identified by mass spectrometry with a sequence coverage of 74.9% (458/577 AA) revealing that the protein is identical or highly homologous to a predicted oxidoreductase from this species (A7EM18 in the Uniprot database); the closest homologous protein previously isolated from a fungus is the
Read moreA new biocatalyst was prepared by the immobilization of a Trametes pubescens laccase, into a wide-pore poly(vinyl alcohol) cryogel. The known enzyme was produced and purified by the previously described procedure. The resulted laccase (yield 40%) has an activity of 46.4 U/mg and 12.51 mg/mL protein content. The enzyme was subsequently immobilized in a functionalized macroporous cryogel beads by a covalent immobilization technique. The time dependence
Read moreElectrochemically active biofilms rely on microorganisms capable of extracellular electron transfer. Such biofilms are involved in the dissimilatory reduction of metal oxides in natural environments as well as electricity driving and driven processes at the electrodes of microbial bioelectrochemical systems. In this work we present the application of confocal Raman microscopy (CRM) as a noninvasive, label-free, and in vivo characterization method
