premii Ad Astra

Asociația Ad Astra a anunțat câștigătorii Premiilor Ad Astra 2022: http://premii.ad-astra.ro/. Proiectul și-a propus identificarea și popularizarea modelelor de succes, a rezultatelor excepționale ale cercetătorilor români din țară și din afara ei.

Asociatia Ad Astra a cercetatorilor romani lanseaza BAZA DE DATE A CERCETATORILOR ROMANI DIN DIASPORA.

On intrinsic time measure in the modeling of cyclic behavior of a Nitinol cubic block

In this paper, the cyclic behavior of a superelastic-plastic nitinol cubic block is described by using the Bouc–Wen model coupled to an intrinsic time measure other than clock time, which governs the behavior of the materials. As a consequence, the thermodynamic admissibility of the Bouc–Wen model is provided by the endochronic theory of plasticity. The role of the intrinsic time measure is described by capturing the stiffness and strength degradation

Shell Buckling of Carbon Nanotubes Using Nanoindentation

The long-range nanoindentation response of carbon nanotubes is studied using a new method that combines the features of Nonlocal Theory and Molecular Mechanics. The deformation of compressed multiple walled carbon nanotubes is investigated, with the emphasis on the simulation of the nanoindentation technique in order to compare the present method to available experimental results

The Anisotropy of Young’s Modulus in Bones

In this paper, yet another method for evaluating the elastic modulus for human bones is introduced and investigated. This method adopts the Jankowski and Tsakalakos strain energy function in which, the Born-Mayer energy term is the predominant term for calculations the elastic constants. By taking accounts the directional aspects of the spatial structure of bones, we obtain different values for the Young’s modulus depending on the direction of

A new class of sonic composites

Transformation acoustics opens a new avenue towards the architecture, modeling and simulation of a new class of sonic composites with scatterers made of various materials and having various shapes embedded in an epoxy matrix. The design of acoustic scatterers is based on the property of Helmholtz equations to be invariant under a coordinate transformation, i.e., a specific spatial compression is equivalent to a new material in a new space. In this

On the response of small buildings to vibrations

In this work, the analysis the response to vibrations of a small building equipped with an electromechanical vibration absorber is investigated. In the first part, the case of harmonic excitation with constant or time dependent frequencies is considered, and in the second part, the case of random earthquakes, respectively. The cross correlation functions and the mean square displacements are calculated for the structure when it is equipped with an

Chaos–hyperchaos transition in a class of models governed by Sommerfeld effect

The present paper points out the scenario of the hyperchaotic attractor formation (an attractor with at least two positive Lyapunov exponents) in a class of models governed by the Sommerfeld effects. The Sommerfeld effect is the result of the conservation law of energy. When a dynamical system is coupled to a power source, it acts like a energy sink for which a part of the source energy is spend to deform the system rather than increasing the drive

On the 3D normal tire/off-road vibro-contact problem with friction

In this paper,a virtual experiment concerning driving on off-roads is investigated via 3D normal vibro-contact problem with friction. The dynamic road concept is introduced in order to characterize a particular stretch of road by total longitudinal, lateral, and normal forces and their geometric distributions in the contact patches. The off-road profiles are built by image sonification technique. The cross-sectional curves of off-roads before and after
