premii Ad Astra

Asociația Ad Astra a anunțat câștigătorii Premiilor Ad Astra 2022: http://premii.ad-astra.ro/. Proiectul și-a propus identificarea și popularizarea modelelor de succes, a rezultatelor excepționale ale cercetătorilor români din țară și din afara ei.

Asociatia Ad Astra a cercetatorilor romani lanseaza BAZA DE DATE A CERCETATORILOR ROMANI DIN DIASPORA.

Heavy metals soil pollution in some urban location from Romania

The heavy metal content in superior horizons, 0–20 cm depth of urban soils situated lengthways of the main streets was analyzed from three Romanian municipalities: Bucharest, Iassy and Baia Mare. The last city, Baia Mare, has received a stronger anthropogenic impact because of the presence of mining and processing nonferrous ores industries. The Baia Mare urban soils are polluted with Pb, Zn, Cu, and Cd, while the urban soils from Bucharest and

Heavy metals soil pollution state in relation to potential future mining activities in the Roşia Montanã area

The aim of this paper is to establish the abundance of heavy metals in the soils affected by the past Rosia Montana gold and silver ore mining, and in currently unaffected soils that will be impacted by the proposed Rosia Montana project that foresees the expansion of the ore exploitation and a new processing facility. The soil cover of the Rosia Montana area consists of five soil types: Eutricambosols, Districambosols, Regosols, Lithosols, and Aluviosols.

Ex-situ bioremediation efficiency in removing organic and inorganic compounds from artificially and anthropogenic contaminated soils

The paper presents the results of bioremediation experiment conducted in order to determine the effectiveness of this method for the decontamination of a soil historically contaminated with heavy metals and artificially controlled with two of the most aggressive group of organic pollutants: hydrocarbons from crude petroleum and polychlorinated biphenyls from transformer oil. The experiment followed how a heavy metals polluted soil respond to innoculation

Phytoremediation of a sludge deposit proceeded from a city wastewater treatment plant

It is presented the possibility to reduce contents of heavy metals (cadmium, zinc) in a sludge proceeded from the wastewater treatment plant of Iaşi Municipality. The sludge was deposited, for over 10 years, in a mud pond with a surface about 15 ha, placed on a calcareous and salinised alluvial soil. For this purpose, it is proposed using the spontaneous flora, which has been settled in a period of four years after closure of the deposit. The flora

Selenium in the soil-plant system of the Fãgãraş Depression

The soil cover of the Fãgãraş Depression consists of different types and sub-types belonging to the following classes: Protisols, Umbrisols, Cambisols, Luvisols, and Hydrisols. These soils are generally acid, with low humus and total nitrogen contents and low up to average mobile phosphorus and potassium contents. They have a predominantly loamy texture. The heavy metals contents are normal. The total selenium content oscillates between 12 and

Results regarding the levels of Cry1Ab protein in transgenic corn tissue (MON810) and the fate of Bt protein in three soil types

Since the introduction of insect-resistant crops in 1996, cultivation of this group of genetically modified crops has grown substantially. There are many Bt corn events in field trials, but only one is commercialized on the Romanian market. The levels of the protein in plant tissue would be valuable in determining the protein concentration to which nontarget organisms may be exposed. The soil fate of the Bt protein is a key parameter governing exposure

Vegetable food quality within heavy metals polluted areas in Romania

There are, in Romania, three areas, Copşa Mica, Zlatna and Baia Mare, very strongly polluted with heavy metals caused by non-ferrous ores extraction and processing industry performed more than two centuries. Intensifying of these activities, especially in the last part of the twentieth century, most often without environment protection measures, has led to pollution of all environment components, particularly soil. The soil cover in these three

Macro- and microelements abundance in some urban soils from Romania

The paper present dates concerning the macro - (N, P, K) and micro elements (Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Cd, Cr, Co, Ni, Pb) in some urban soils from three large Romanian cities: Bucharest, Iasi and Baia-Mare. The soil samples from different locations as park areas, along the streets areas with intense cars traffic and/or in influence zones of some industrial objective with chemical or non-ferrous processing activities recorded heavy metals loading. In these

High-pressure effects on single crystals of electron-doped Pr2-xCexCuO4

We present high-pressure diamond-anvil cell synchrotron x-ray, resistivity, and ac-susceptibility measurements on the electron-doped cuprate Pr2-xCexCuO4 to much higher pressures than previously reported. At 2.72 GPa between 88 and 98% of the superconducting T phase of the optimally doped Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4 transforms into the insulating phase T . With application of pressure, the T phase becomes more insulating, so we present here an example of electron
