premii Ad Astra

Asociația Ad Astra a anunțat câștigătorii Premiilor Ad Astra 2022: http://premii.ad-astra.ro/. Proiectul și-a propus identificarea și popularizarea modelelor de succes, a rezultatelor excepționale ale cercetătorilor români din țară și din afara ei.

Asociatia Ad Astra a cercetatorilor romani lanseaza BAZA DE DATE A CERCETATORILOR ROMANI DIN DIASPORA.

Mechanisms of nitric oxide release from organic nitrates and nitrites: implications on the activation of soluble guanylyl cyclase and inhibition of lipid peroxidation [dissertation]

Organic nitrates and nitrites are used in cardiovascular therapy as vasodilators. They are supposedly biotransformed to nitric oxide (NO), which activates soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) - the enzyme responsible for their biological activity. Organic nitrites are potential intermediates in the transformation of nitrates to NO. NO appears to have both cytoprotective and cytotoxic properties. In the brain, NO might be cytoprotective by increasing the

Nonculturable response of animal enteropathogens in the agricultural environment and implications for food safety

Concerns about animal enteropathogen contamination of fresh horticultural products have increased worldwide and are mainly due to the ability of bacteria to survive under stress conditions in the agricultural environment and during raw-vegetable processing. This review challenges the idea that the viable but nonculturable phenomenon that has been proven to occur in plant-associated environments contributes to human pathogen survival and might be

Induction of viable but non-culturable Escherichia coli O157:H7 on the phyllosphere of lettuce: a food safety risk factor

Escherichia coli O157:H7 continues to be an important human pathogen and has been increasingly linked to foodborne illness associated with fresh produce, particularly leafy greens. The aim of this work was to investigate the fate of E. coli O157:H7 on the phyllosphere of lettuce under low temperature and to evaluate the potential hazard of viable but non-culturable (VBNC) cells induced under such stressful conditions. First we studied the survival

Several Fruit Characteristics of Rosa sp. Genotypes from the Northeastern Region of Romania

There is great evidence regarding the beneficial influence of rose hips on human and animal health. In this respect, fruits of native populations of Rosa spp. collected from the northeastern part of Romania (400-1060 m altitude) were assayed for nutritional and some morphological properties, in order to select the best genotypes. The results show a great quantitative variability of analyzed genotypes, regarding dimensions and biochemical indicators

Morphometric pattern of somatic chromosomes in three Romanian seabuckthorn genotypes

The somatic chromosomes and karyotype traits of three Romanian genotypes (coded as CB-1, S-16, L-4) of Hippophae rhamnoides L. have been studied. Diploid chromosome number is 2n=24. The karyomorphological data show that the complements have small chromosomes (1.33 ± 0.014 – 2.80±0.01 μm, for CB-1 genotype; 1.13 ± 0.029 – 2.90 ± 0.029 μm, for S-16; 1.15 ± 0.099 – 2.88 ± 0.024 μm, for L-4 genotype) and the length of haploid complements

Preconditioning of stem cells by oxytocin to improve their therapeutic potential.

Principal limitation of cell therapy is cell loss after transplantation because of the interplay between ischemia, inflammation, and apoptosis. We investigated the mechanism of preconditioning of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) with oxytocin (OT), which has been proposed as a novel strategy for enhancing therapeutic potential of these cells in ischemic heart. In this study, we demonstrate that rat MSCs express binding sites for OT receptor and OT receptor

POLLEN GRAIN EXPRESSION OF INTRINSIC AND OSMOLYTE INDUCED OSMOTIC ADJUSTMENT IN A SET OF WHEAT CULTIVARS

Osmotic adjustment is one of the important traits, potentially useful for improving plant performance under drought. We tested pollen response to osmotic stress, produced by immersion in 55% or 65% PEG 6000 solutions, without or with addition of KCl, to estimate osmotic adjustment (OA), by using quantitative measurements of projected pollen cytoplasm area, in 43 wheat cultivars. We found large differences between cultivars, both for the effect of

Structural Analysis of PM Biocomposites Based on Hydroxyapatite Nanopowders Elaborated by Spark Plasma Sintering Route

The objective of this research is the development of a detailed structural analysis of biocomposites with ceramic matrix of hydroxyapatite (Hap) reinforced by titanium (Ti), elaborated by powder metallurgy technology. Nanometric Hap powders (

Research of the Milling Time Influence on Ag-Cu Powder Particles Size Processed by Mechanical Alloying Route

This research focuses on Ag-Cu powder particles processing by mechanical alloying (MA) route. The powder mixture is representative for the eutectic composition, respectively 72%wt. Ag + 28% wt. Cu. The milling process is developed in high energy ball mill Pulverisette 6, using different size for the milling balls, in wet conditions for 80 hours. One of the most important parameter studied in this research is the particle size distribution of the
