Digital Noise Red. w/ MEMS Ind.’s

Noise reduction in ever faster low-voltage / low-impedance mixed-signal applications used in data-acquisition is gradually rendered ineffective by the line resistance to the decoupling capacitors. As an alternative option, the reduction of digital-interference with MEMS inductors is SPICE simulated, proving good noise reduction. The associated problem of self-perturbance is solved in a novel manner with local buffer-capacitors, also technologically

Meas’m Leading Particle Eff.’s

We present evidence for leading particle production in hadronic decays of the Z0 boson to light-flavor jets. A polarized electron beam was used to tag quark and antiquark jets, and a vertex detector was employed to reject heavy-flavor events. Charged hadrons were identified with a Cherenkov ring imaging detector. In the quark jets, more high-momentum p, Lambda , K-, and K-bar*0 were observed than their antiparticles, and vice versa for antiquark

Mass Det. Meth. for R/L SUSY-e-

The determination of the masses of supersymmetric particles, such as the selectron, for energies above threshold using the energy end-point method is subject to signal deconvolution difficulties and to standard model and supersymmetry backgrounds. The important features of e-tildeR,L[plus-minus] production are used to design an experimentally robust method, with good resolution, both for determining the e-tildeR,L and the chi-tilde10 masses and for

Analytical & Numerical Flash-Algorithms for Track Fits

Flash-algorithm track-reconstruction routines with speed factors 3000-4000 in excess those of traditional iterative routines are presented. The methods were successfully tested in the alignment of the Test Beam setup for the ATLAS Pixel Detector MCM-D modules yielding a 60 fold increase in alignment resolution over iterative routines, for the same amount of alocated CPU time.

Quantum Particle Trajectories

"Particle"-trajectories are defined as integrable dx*dp= 0 paths in projective space. Quantum states evolving on such trajectories, open or closed, do not delocalise in (x,p) projection, the phase associated with the trajectories being related to the geometric (Berry) phase and the Classical Mechanics action. High Energy Physics properties of states evolving on "particle" - trajectories are discussed.

Production Rates of Strange Vector Mesons at the Z0 Resonance

A study of strange vector meson production, "leading particle" effect and a first direct measurement of QCD strangeness suppression in hadronic decays of the neutral electroweak boson, Z0. The measurements were performed in e+e- collisions at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) within the SLC Large Detector (SLD) experiment. A new generation particle ID system, the SLD Cerenkov Ring Imaging Detector (CRID) was used to discriminate kaons

SnO2 Gas Sensors

Columnar porous silicon (CPS) substrate SnO2 gas-sensor devices with high sensitivities and low working temperatures (input power 500-800 mW in TO-99 casing) are presented. The paper compares a conventional substrate (SnO2 on SiO2/silicon substrate) with two porous substrate devices, one with pores of 60-300 nm ('porous'), and the other of 400-2000 nm ('mesoporous'). The CPS substrates were prepared on p-type 3 inch silicon wafers through boron diffusion
