Methods of electromagnetic interference reduction in electrocardiographic signal acquisition

This paper presents an automatic electrocardiographic (ECG) signal acquisition system and processing method developed the authors. The system was intended to estimate the possibility for electromagnetic interference reduction in case of electrocardiography (ECG) signal acquisition and recording. With the aim to decrease the electromagnetic interference, the proposed system uses the processing system – patient reaction and notch filter, to which

Reduction of power line interferences from electrocardiographic signals by applying adaptive filtering on Field Programmable Gate Array circuits

The paper presents an extended implementation of an adaptive filter structure for electrocardiographic (ECG) signals denoising which is implemented on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) circuit. The proposed FPGA adaptive filter structure can be used to clean in real-time the ECG signals from power line interferences. In order to update the adaptive filter weights, the Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm is used. The discrete forms of the filter

Prototype design and experimental evaluation of wireless measurement nodes for road safety

The paper presents the design and the experimental evaluation of prototypes of measurement nodes that are part of the Wireless Active Guardrail System (WAGS). The WAGS is an innovative infrastructure, allowing increasing traffic safety on roads, by monitoring vehicle speed, proximity between vehicle and guardrail, impact of a vehicle with the guardrail, and several environmental parameters. In particular, in this paper, the designs and prototypes

Isothermal (vapour+liquid) equilibrium and thermophysical properties for (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide + 1-butanol) binary system

Experimental isothermal (vapour+liquid) equilibrium (VLE) data are reported for the binary mixture containing 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide ([bmim]I) + 1-butanol at three temperatures: (353.15, 363.15, and 373.15) K, in the range of 0-0.22 liquid mole fraction of [bmim]I. Additionally, refractive index measurements have been performed at three temperatures: (293.15, 298.15 and 308.15) K in the whole composition range. Densities, excess molar

TRANSGENIC PLUMS EXPRESSING PLUM POX VIRUS COAT PROTEIN GENE DO NOT ASSIST THE DEVELOPMENT OF VIRUS RECOMBINANTS UNDER FIELD CONDITIONS

The serological and genetic variability of Plum pox virus (PPV) isolates from transgenic plum trees expressing the PPV coat protein gene and conventional plums was analyzed. PPV isolates were characterized serologically by TAS-ELISA using PPV-D and PPV-M specific monoclonal antibodies and by molecular typing across three genomic regions as well as RFLP analysis of the 3’ terminus of the CP gene. PCR products spanning the (Cter)CP and (Cter)NIb-(Nter)CP

Plum pox virus silencing of C5 transgenic plums is stable under challenge inoculation with heterologous viruses.

Transgenic C5 cv. Honey Sweet is a clone of Prunus domestica L. transformed with the Plum pox virus coat protein gene (PPV-CP). This transgenic plum displays post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS) which makes it highly resistant to PPV infection. To test the effect of heterologous viruses on the efficacy and stability of PTGS against PPV, transgenic C5 trees were graft-inoculated with different combinations of Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV),

Finite element analysis of heat transfer in transformers from high voltage stations

This present paper presents the modeling and simulation of the thermal transfer in the transformers from the high electric voltage stations using finite element method. As the transformers are of high power and are inversed in oil, a particular interest represents the maintenance of physical and chemical parameters of oil as long a time during operation. For this, one presents the coupled analysis electromagnetic field and thermal field. The procedure

Robust method to identify damages in beams based on frequency shift analysis

The paper presents a method to assess damages in beams, based on how natural frequencies of bending vibration modes change due to damages. The authors have contrived a correlation between the strain energy stored in a segment of the beam, which is proportional with the mode shape curvature of a considered vibration mode at that location, and the frequency change for this mode if damage appears on that segment. For a certain mode, damages placed on

Horticultural mineral oil treatments in nurseries during aphid flights reduce Plum pox virus incidence under different ecological conditions

The application of horticultural mineral oil (HMO) treatments has been reported as a possible control strategy to reduce Plum pox virus (PPV) incidence in Prunus nurseries. The effect of Sunspray Ultrafine HMO at 1% on the natural viral spread was evaluated in experimental nursery plots of Nemaguard and Mariana GF8-1 Prunus rootstock blocks established under high natural inoculum pressure of the most prevalent PPV-types. Tests were conducted in experimental
